When the guide earns its price

The gap between a €35 entry and a €74 tour is about €40. Here's what that actually buys:

  • The engineering story, on site. The double shell, the herringbone bond, the reversible hoists: without context, the corridor between the shells is just an odd staircase. With a guide, it becomes the reason you came.
  • Logistics solved. Dome slot included, meeting point fixed, no hunting for the right door — one mistake at the Porta della Mandorla costs you the slot.
  • Answers. An audio guide won't explain why Uccello's clock runs backwards. A guide will.

And when it isn't needed: if you've read the history, travel at your own pace, or budget rules — the plain ticket plus this guide do an excellent job.

How to choose without regret

  • Check "what's included". "View of the dome" ≠ "dome climb" — the wording decides whether you look or ascend.
  • Read reviews per language. Guide quality varies: filter recent reviews in your language.
  • Watch the real duration. A "4-hour tour" may include free time — the detailed listing says so.
  • Ask the group size. Tiqets formats typically run 15–30 people.
  • Free cancellation. Many offers include it up to 24 hours ahead — gold on a trip with moving parts.

What about audio guides?

Several Tiqets bundles include an audio guide (baptistery, cathedral, museum): cheaper than a human guide and effective wherever you roam freely. Its limit is the dome: during the climb your hands are on the rail and your breath is elsewhere — better a voice walking with you, or a read of this guide beforehand.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Florence Duomo guided tour cost?

From €7 for cathedral entry with an escort up to €74 for the full tour with the dome climb. In between: cathedral-only tours from €19 and formats with the baptistery and museum around €55.

Do guided tours include the entry tickets?

Yes — on Tiqets, entry to the monuments covered by the tour is included in the price. Always double-check the "what's included" section of the specific offer before booking.

What languages are the tours available in?

Dome-climb tours run in English and Spanish; cathedral tours also depart in Italian and French. Each product page lists languages and departure times.

Guided tour or audio guide — which is better?

The audio guide costs less and moves at your pace; the guide answers questions and handles logistics. For the dome, a guide has one concrete edge: they explain the double-shell engineering while you're walking inside it.

How long do the tours last?

From 30 minutes (express cathedral visit) to 4.5 hours for the full formats with dome, museum and baptistery. The most popular format runs about 2 hours.

Do the tours include the dome time slot?

Tours with the climb include the timed slot — one of their main advantages when official slots are sold out. Make sure the listing explicitly says "dome climb included".
